Her pursuit for academic excellence resulted on her achievement of being the Valedictorian graduate from her Medical School in Brazil, where she is from. She completed 2 residencies in OBGYN at the following institutions: Federal University of Parana and West Virginia University. She is thrilled to have the opportunity to take care of growing families and women from all over the world! She is always open to innovation and has been certified to perform Robotic GYN surgery since 2009. She loves to enjoy her free time by frequenting the many cultural venues in Hampton Roads and watching her son Marco participating in all of his many hobbies. You can be sure to spot her at one of our beautiful parks or beaches in the area.

The doctor was not up to date on my chat. She talked about the IUD expelling after being placed in giving birth. I told her that mine was still in place. She asked if I had an ultrasound done. I told her, I got one the first time I came to the office the first time I seen her.

Gynecological Problem Visit

It went as I expected: I approached Dr Basso with a complex problem with my periods, a recent bout of sickness, and my mental health. Her solution, without follow up questions, blood work, or imaging, was more birth control (which I don’t tolerate). We discussed further, and I asked for imaging, which she agreed to, and she offered blood work at that point. I struggle with my mental health, and it’s tied to my cycle. I had hoped Dr Basso would help me feel heard, would help create a plan to ensure nothing serious was going on—which she did, after I pressed—but I also felt uncomfortable with her apparent discomfort discussing mood disorders. She also seemed frustrated by my unwillingness to try yet another birth control pill, as that seemed to be the only option as far as she was concerned.
