Dr. Maxwell is a native Californian. He received undergraduate and graduate degrees from Texas A&M University, his medical degree from Kansas City University of Medicine & Biosciences, and completed his OB/Gyn residency at the Carilion Clinic. A Fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, he is interested in all aspects of obstetric and gynecologic care with a special interest in minimally invasive gynecologic surgery. Dr. Maxwell has advanced training in Robotic/laparoscopic surgical procedures and the management of urinary incontinence using the Interstim bladder control system.

Outside of the hospital and office, he enjoys spending time with his wife and two daughters. Dr. Maxwell is also a two-time Ironman Triathlon finisher, competing in the Ironman World Championship in Hawaii.

I have been seeing Dr. Maxwell for about 7 years as a patient. Dr. Maxwell is one of the best physicians whose care I have been under. Dr. Maxwell and I developed a wonderful patient-doctor relationship and during any of my visits to his office would always begin with asking about my family and me. I also enjoyed getting to know more about his family and some shared personal interests that we both had, which we always caught up on during visits! From a care perspective, Dr. Maxwell would always ask if I had any concerns and when I would he would take the time to listen, I never felt as if he was in a rush to "move onto the next patient". For concerns that I would have, Dr. Maxwell would always share the options and the why and we would work together to identify the right next step! While I am very sad that Dr. Maxwell is leaving Harrisonburg, I know he will continue to bring his light and care to his future patients and practice.

Dr.Maxwell was very nice, but I felt was dismissive when I would explain things that were concerning to me. He came right in lowered the recliner and started the doppler to hear the baby's heartbeat. It wasn't on for 30 seconds and he was already done. I barely got to hear the heartbeat. The medical assistants who called me back and did the weight/blood pressure could interact more with patients she gave off a flat expression.

Dr. Maxwell is always friendly and welcoming and lets me know what he's doing during each step in the procedure. I appreciate that. I would give a higher rating if the office was cleaner. Perhaps it's because it's an old building, but every time I've been, it looks like the floor and surfaces are not quite clean and items in the exam room are a askew (which wouldn't bother me if I felt like things were clean). My standards aren't over the top but I prefer that medical facilities in the U.S. be as clean as possible.
