Dr. Steven Powers is a board-certified obstetrician and gynecologist and has been practicing for more than 25 years. He enjoys all aspects of women’s health and caring for women in all stages of their lives.

Dr. Powers received his medical degree from Eastern Virginia Medical School in Norfolk, VA. He then completed his internship and residency at Riverside Regional Medical Center. He is currently a preceptor with EVMS and Liberty University. He has previously served as Chief of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Chesapeake Regional Medical Center in Chesapeake, Va., and a member of the Advisory Committee of the Joint Boards of Nursing and Medicine Virginia Department of Health Professionals in Richmond, VA.

Gynecological Exams

I really like this dr and his bedside manner. Good guy, smart, and listens to my point of view about not wanting to take the medication he suggested. I do not like to take something unless there is a medically indicated reason *and* I am being treated for it or I have a condition etc. - not preventive, at least not in this case. So, this review is a 4 rather than a 5 because I asked him to send Sentara the script for my annual mammo and to add a bone density to it. He sent it to them electronically but DID NOT SIGN it, requiring that I call your office to have them fix it and resubmit it (which I feel I again have to follow up on to be sure it was done). Surely this was an oversight and probably done by the very busy office staff or PA, but annoying for the patient to have to take time to have it corrected. I would not have known until my actual appt that this was not signed and I just happened to call Sentara to be sure they got the script. Not being able to get the tests on the day I walked into the imaging center would have been a huge inconvenience! Thank you for helping.

It was about a 5 minute visit to schedule another visit (ultrasound). It could save time taken off work to schedule the ultrasound altogether so not to have to take time off twice.

I am a Retired Nurse with a Masters Degree in Nurse with 28-years experience. I have dealt with a whole bunch of doctors in my career and on a personal level with my own health. Dr. Powers, is truly one-of-a-kind Physician. He has wonderful listening skills and is very compassionate and concerned about each of His Patients! I was Blessed the Day, I found Him. I left a physician who really did not care one thing about his patients. He was just going to work everyday and patient care had become nothing more than making a living and not helping his patients. BUT, NOT DR. POWERS! He cares!! He explains, everything to you and he ask questions that are very important related to the care he is seeing you for! He even is concerned about your other health care problems and is monitoring those along with the treatments he is providing; to make sure they are not complicating other health care issues. This man, just knows how to talk and treat women!! This is very HARD to find in this world today! A whole bunch of Physicians could learn some lessons from Dr. Powers! And, I enjoy his office staff and his nursing team or MA’s. He is just the right physician for me!
