Ultrasound
Ultrasound
Ultrasound, also called a sonogram, is an important part of the evaluation process for many obstetric and gynecologic symptoms and conditions. From the first sight and heart beat of your baby to the evaluation of chronic pelvic pain, our team of board-certified physicians and experienced sonographers at Mid-Atlantic Women’s Care provide the highest quality of expertise, skill and personalized care through our cutting-edge technology.
What is an Ultrasound?
A pelvic ultrasound is safe and minimally invasive. It uses high frequency sound waves to create a picture of organs and structures in the body to aid in the diagnosis of problems, such as uterine fibroids, and ovarian cysts or to aid in obstetric care, such as following the growth and development of a baby. OB/GYN ultrasounds can be performed either transabdominally or transvaginally. Color doppler, 3D imaging and saline infusion (sonohysterogram) may also be used during the ultrasound to assist in the diagnosis.
At Mid-Atlantic Women’s Care all of our practices are accredited with the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine (AIUM) demonstrating that we meet or exceed the nationally recognized standards in the performance of ultrasound examinations.
