Dr. Kathy O’Connell was born and raised on the Peninsula and graduated from Tabb High School. When she is not practicing medicine she enjoys eating chocolate, reading books, riding her dirt bike, volunteering and serving the community.

Kathy has a passion for traveling to the most remote parts of Uganda and Kenya to serve those in great need of spiritual and medical care. She lives in Yorktown with her husband, Jim and is blessed with a daughter, Katie and a son, James.

IUD Insertion / Removal

Dr. Dowell has been absolutely amazing. I have had two known chemical pregnancies, and she has been so incredibly helpful. I first began coming to Womans Care Center seeing Dr. Hughes. I was very unsatisfied with him and how uncomfortable appointments were with him and how belittled I felt leaving him. Ever since having my first chemical pregnancy that he confirmed, I had specifically asked for female doctors anytime I had to make an appointment and eventually I ended up seeing Dr. Dowell and I am so thankful to have met her. Even as early as our losses have been being that they were chemical pregnancies, Dr. Dowell has been so incredibly kind, supportive, and helpful. She has validated me as a woman and my husband and I as parents, regardless of how our pregnancies have turned out. Now is not an ideal time for us to be having children, so we have chosen to go with an IUD for birth control. During my last visit, she had tried to insert the IUD; however, couldn't get my cervix to dilate enough to continue. The entire time that she was attempting to insert it, she made sure to check in with me and make sure I felt ok and still wanted to continue. Afterwards, we were talking about my chemical pregnancies and how I have been handling the emotions since. She was incredibly sympathetic and saying in the room with my husband and I talking for as long as I needed and continued to support me and us in our decision to try a new type of birth control despite how excited we are to eventually have children and how distraught I have been since having our chemical pregnancies. To say that Dr. Dowell has been amazing, would be an understatement. " Thank you" is not nearly sufficient for how incredible Dr. Dowell has been. There are no words to express how thankful we are to have the pleasure of seeing Dr. Dowell.
